I play cover gigs around Tampa a few nights a week. On one rare occasion, a phone number was dropped into my tip jar. I reached out this person, we texted a few times and quickly evaporated into nothing. The few days following, though, I was thinking about it and the fact that I never get numbers in my tip jar. Well, I get ones, fives, tens, and the occasional twenty but not phone numbers. I knew there was a song to be written as soon as I had that thought. I started the melody while out walking and put it to chords as soon as I got home.
As a writer, this was a great exercise in looking at a small experience and expanding upon it to build a story.
