In September of 2023, Melody Bridge released their first single, Daylight Moon. The following year saw a few more singles that has helped the band explore their sound and direction as a band. Though the releases have been few, the writing in the background has been plenty which has led to the upcoming release of the band's first EP, The Arc.
As the best songs raised to the top, the storyline became apparent. Unsurprisingly reflective of lead singer and songwriter, Evan Koteles', last few years navigating divorce and discovery.
Though the latest trends in music tell bands to release singles, it was important to emphasis the threw-line between these 6 songs so the band struck a compromise - release one single, Flyin', the remainder of the EP just 2 weeks later.
What you can expect…
This EP is not one genre but it is cohesive.
You'll start with Flyin', a country/pop song that makes it incredibly easy to imagine the music video. The coincidence of an empty seat, the shared arm rest, the turnaround plot twist in the bridge… all make it evident that Melody Bridge is polished in both songwriting and production.
Track 2, Follow, is all about seeing where things can go after such a meet-cute. You'll hear the guitar influence of John Mayer here.
History is the third track and this will point back to 90's and 2000's alternative bands like Third Eye Blind while lyrically working through the eventual demise of a relationship despite things going well.
Things end, but not always terribly which, actually, can make the moving on harder to do. Hurt Me a Little More introduces the piano to help contemplate the aftermath of a good relationship. You can tell the band are fans of Augustana and Coldplay from this track.
Daylight Moon is the only re-release on the EP, having been remixed and remastered from the original release. Adjusting to a post-relationship life can feel like you are out of your element, like a moon out during the day.
The last stop of the EP is your Eat. Pray, Love story. Who hasn't thought of dropping everything to move to Europe? …Or at least taking a trip. One of the more acoustic moments on the EP but also one of the strongest lyrically.
The band hopes to play shows around Tampa in 2025 and already has the next project underway.
